“Shogunate” is intended to be an index of Japanese Cinema reviews and impressions from the perspective of an amateur. That is, someone who has no formal knowledge or training in the realm of film. The content of this blog will be restricted to (somewhat) structured critiques. An effort will be made to keep reviews reasonably brief and to the point, without sacrificing clarity or passing by any important points.
All genres, such as they are, will be covered (Horror, Cult, Samurai, etc.). The only true criteria for a potential post is that the film being discussed is of Japanese origin. And, to be honest, I plan on breaking even that simple guideline eventually (Korea just has too many interesting movies these days).
The author has a passion for Japanese cinema and it is hoped that Shogunate will resonate with those who have a like-minded affection, and spark interest in those without.
No major spoilers will ever be posted.
